MANE LOVE

So as you all may (or may not) know, I have my own natural hair page that I host through Instagram called @danaturalhairtwins . I created this as a fun forum, as well as an interactive space for other naturals to just stop by and gain some quick, easy tools and support. I love to post everything on there from easy hair tutorials, to quick "hair of the day" clips. One of my favorite things I love most about the page is that I’m able to feature and share the beauty of other naturals! This allows me the opportunity to meet and network with so many beautiful people and it also gives me a chance to gawk, drool and obsess over how gorgeous their natural manes are, without looking like a complete weirdo! lol

I'm fortunate enough to work in an office FULL of beautiful black naturals, who have allowed me the opportunity to chat with them, pick their brains and ask them a few fun questions about their natural hair journey! Take a moment and check out their responses!

THEO

Q. What made you loc your hair, were there any specific reason(s)?

A. I started my locs as a part of my new identity. Before I met my wife in high school, I was a little trouble maker, and I used my locs to show my growth and turn a new table.

Q. How long have you been rocking your locs?

A. In November, it will be 12 years.

Q. As a man, what's the best part about rocking your natural hair?

A. The thing I love the most about my hair is how it pays homage to my ancestors, the struggle they went through and the struggle we still go through today. I also love how your locs match your mood in life.

Q. What are some of your favorite products to use on your hair/beard?

A. I’m a huge fan of Jamaican Mango & Lime products. I use the Cactus Oil, No Itch Gro Spray, and Hair N’Cense. For my beard, I recently started using Zeus Beard products. I use a shampoo and conditioner from them and their Vanilla Rum beard oil, so we'll see how this product works!

Q. What’s the best compliment you’ve received from a woman about your hair?

A. I remember getting a re-twist and braids once, and a woman in the shop told me when I got home, my wife was going to want to make some babies lol! I took that as a compliment!

ME: EEEEOOOWWWW! WELL I GUESS IT WORKED HUH! LOL, CONGRATS ON YOUR LITTLE BUN IN THE OVEN! ❤️🎉

Q. What advice/tips would you give to other young men interested in locking their hair?

A. It’s a process! You will get frustrated with your hair and you will reconsider locking your hair. Once your hair is actually locked you’ll see why it was worth all of the struggle. Also know, if you’re starting from short hair, it doesn’t grow over night. It’s going to take time, it’s a process!

Q. Do you think you’ll cut your hair at any point?

A. Yes, but only when the hairline starts looking like Stevie Wonder. I’m ok with rocking the gray locs!

ARICA

Q. What made you want to return to your natural hair?

A. At the time, I was only getting retouches 2 times a year and my best friend at the time had already introduced the idea to me. I figured I would give it a try so…..here we are!

Q. How long have you been rocking your natural tresses?

A. December 5, 2012 was my last retouch, so about 6 years.

Q. What do you love most about your natural hair?

A. I love it because its carefree. I love my curl pattern and how easy it is to maintain, so for the most part even if its messy, its still kinda cute!

Q. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are 5 hair products you take?

1. garnier leave in conditioner cream (I ABSOLUTELY AGREE, 100%)

2. regular conditioner

3. coconut oil will already be there, NO? *LMAO ARICA *

4.Fantasia spritz

5. ECO styler custard

Q. Would you ever relax your hair again?

A. HELL TO THE NO! I honestly don’t even think about it! Why were we ever using a product we needed a “neutralizer” for!!??

Q. The hair, can your man touch it or nah?

A. Oh, YES honey! YAAAAAAAASSSS!!!

ME: SAME SIS. SAME!!! 😩🙌🏾

Q. What encouraging words would you give to your younger self and other little girls with kinky curly hair?

A. Your natural hair is BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE! Cherish it, take care of it, love on it and make everyone else do the same!

EMMANUEL

***YALL THIS ONE MADE ME PULL IT OUT OF HIM!!*** 🙄 LOL

This was supposed to be a "answer the questions and give them back to me" situation but, I basically had to interview this man like I was Wendy Williams!😒

Q. Why did you lock your hair?

A. Having had braids back in high school, it’s something I’ve always considered. During the time I was dating a young island woman, she decided to start my locs for me and I thought, “why not!?”. That’s when my loc journey began. Once I started, there were discussions of how energy and strength could hold a place in the hair and I found that interesting!

Q. How long have you been rocking your locs?

A. It’s been about 7 years now.

Q. As a man, what do you love most about your hair? Do you think you’ll ever cut it and go back to a wave cut?

A.) I love this question!! My locs are a statement! I believe locs are known to represent power and knowledge. I feel like these qualities are what my hair represents.

B.) I have been asked to cut my hair as well as facial hair for employment purposes and my answer has been and simply remains, “NO!”. Why should I conform to assimilate what is “acceptable” for a culture that doesn’t accept nor respect me either way?

I have trimmed my hair a bit already but to go back to a caesar or a stylish cut, I’m not too sure about that. I currently enjoy only needing to sit in a shop once every 5-6 weeks vs. every week or 2 weeks. At this point I don’t see it happening!

ME: AND THESE WORK FOR YOU! IF YOU WERE TO CUT YOUR LOCS, I DONT THINK YOUD GET AS MUCH PLAY! 😂 🤣 (I'm ALWAYS teasing him) lol

Q. What products are you using right now?

A. I have all-natural products that I use from my hairdresser. *shameless plug* Shout out to Headquarters/ Loc Room. When I'm not using those products, I use coconut oil (mainly on my beard).

Q. What’s the best compliment you’ve received from a woman about your hair?

**DISCLAIMER: MAKE SURE YALL READ HIS RESPONSE TO THIS QUESTION IN MY (Bree's) VOICE**

A. “WHO ARE YOU GETTING FOINE FOR!? LOOKING LIKE A SHNACK!”

ME: 🗣🗣🗣 OK DADDY SHARK!! LOL

Q. What advice would you give to other young men interested in the locking journey?

A. Be prepared for the “ugly phase” lol (YES that's a thing) and to be patient with your hair, the payoff is rewarding! Plus women LOVE dread heads because the process has taught us how to be patient and commit! *wink wink*

ME AGAIN!: COMMMIIITTTT!!!???MANNY I KNOOOOOOWWW YOU FAWKING LYYYYIIINNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOY GWON! Lol *EYEROLLS FOR DAYS WITH THIS GUY* 🙄🙄🙄
